Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mining, Healthcare Equipment & Services and Aerospace & Defense sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 6.95% or 52.40 points to trade at 806.40 at the close. St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP) added 5.60% or 84.50 points to end at 1592.50 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) was up 4.64% or 39.40 points to 888.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RKT), which lost 3.17% or 181.0 points to trade at 5519.0 in late trade. HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) declined 1.66% or 6.70 points to end at 396.60 and ITV PLC (LON:ITV) shed 1.34% or 1.60 points to 117.75.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1278 to 928 and 205 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.01% or 0.20 to $1799.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.81% or 0.58 to hit $72.23 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.50% or 0.37 to trade at $73.89 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.11% to 1.3889, while EUR/GBP fell 0.05% to 0.8506.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 92.487.
