Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.34%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which rose 4.83% or 290.00 points to trade at 6300.00 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) added 4.49% or 34.20 points to end at 796.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 3.94% or 32.20 points to 850.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which lost 14.59% or 18.35 points to trade at 107.40 in late trade. Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) declined 9.63% or 23.90 points to end at 224.20 and 3I Group PLC (LON:III) shed 8.16% or 70.20 points to 789.80.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1378 to 736 and 268 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.23% or 14.80 to $1214.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.14% or 0.64 to hit $56.89 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 1.38% or 0.91 to trade at $67.03 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.90% to 1.2745, while EUR/GBP rose 1.99% to 0.8877.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.37% at 97.02.
