Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Insurance, Life Insurance/Assurance and Aerospace & Defense sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.31%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML), which rose 2.19% or 59.00 points to trade at 2,757.00 at the close. Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) added 2.06% or 32.50 points to end at 1,610.00 and J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) was up 1.71% or 4.60 points to 274.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which lost 2.18% or 41.00 points to trade at 1,838.50 in late trade. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) declined 1.76% or 5.70 points to end at 317.50 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) shed 1.18% or 4.85 points to 405.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 993 to 759 and 721 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.23% or 5.65 to $2,509.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.19% or 1.75 to hit $78.31 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.99% or 1.64 to trade at $80.66 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.53% to 1.28, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.21% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.28% at 102.68.
