Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking, Automobiles & Parts and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO), which rose 3.30% or 9.50 points to trade at 297.00 at the close. HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) added 2.87% or 18.50 points to end at 663.20 and RS Group PLC (LON:RS1R) was up 2.18% or 15.50 points to 726.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which lost 3.39% or 12.90 points to trade at 367.70 in late trade. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) declined 2.10% or 46.00 points to end at 2,145.50 and St. James's Place PLC (LON:SJP) shed 2.09% or 9.20 points to 431.80.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 875 to 859 and 706 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.23% or 5.45 to $2,356.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.15% or 0.13 to hit $85.36 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.17% or 0.15 to trade at $89.57 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.11% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.00% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.06% at 105.03.
