Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Aerospace & Defense, Software & Computer Services and Support Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO), which rose 3.88% or 49.50 points to trade at 1323.50 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 3.59% or 58.80 points to end at 1694.80 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) was up 2.98% or 28.60 points to 988.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Old Mutual PLC (LON:OMU), which lost 1.84% or 2.82 points to trade at 150.40 in late trade. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) declined 1.54% or 68.00 points to end at 4347.00 and British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) shed 1.21% or 47.00 points to 3830.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1275 to 707 and 327 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.29% or 3.60 to $1254.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.71% or 0.52 to hit $73.97 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.86% or 1.44 to trade at $79.05 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.93% to 1.3199, while EUR/GBP rose 0.03% to 0.8849.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.76% at 94.28.
