Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Forestry & Paper and Mobile Telecommunications sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.21% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which rose 3.66% or 24.00 points to trade at 679.20 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 3.58% or 45.50 points to end at 1315.50 and Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) was up 3.31% or 22.00 points to 686.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which lost 4.64% or 6.35 points to trade at 130.60 in late trade. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) declined 2.86% or 8.60 points to end at 291.80 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) shed 2.50% or 35.00 points to 1364.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1113 to 887 and 320 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.09% or 1.20 to $1292.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.59% or 0.43 to hit $72.78 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.10% or 0.87 to trade at $80.09 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.07% to 1.3436, while EUR/GBP fell 0.13% to 0.8771.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 93.47.
