Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Forestry & Paper, Mining and Software & Computer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB), which rose 6.31% or 490.00 points to trade at 8250.00 at the close. Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) added 6.19% or 78.50 points to end at 1347.50 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was up 4.98% or 89.80 points to 1892.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Centrica PLC (LON:CNA), which lost 5.05% or 7.50 points to trade at 140.90 in late trade. Capita PLC (LON:CPI) declined 2.19% or 2.85 points to end at 127.25 and Provident Financial (LON:PFG) shed 1.93% or 12.60 points to 641.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1041 to 923 and 312 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.07% or 0.90 to $1289.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.41% or 0.29 to hit $71.02 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.26% or 0.20 to trade at $78.23 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.24% to 1.3473, while EUR/GBP fell 0.21% to 0.8747.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 93.38.
