Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Electronic & Electrical Equipment, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Travel & Leisure sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.13% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Bunzl PLC (LON:BNZL), which rose 3.22% or 68.00 points to trade at 2179.00 at the close. Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) added 2.53% or 49.00 points to end at 1989.00 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) was up 2.45% or 31.50 points to 1319.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which lost 2.62% or 17.40 points to trade at 647.60 in late trade. British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) declined 2.48% or 99.00 points to end at 3900.00 and Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF) shed 2.47% or 7.50 points to 296.30.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 768 to 675 and 298 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.96% or 12.70 to $1306.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.44% or 0.99 to hit $67.58 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.62% or 1.21 to trade at $73.48 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.08% to 1.3615, while EUR/GBP rose 0.47% to 0.8813.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.65% at 92.23.
