Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Industrial Metals & Mining and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which rose 4.60% or 37.00 points to trade at 841.00 at the close. Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) added 2.84% or 56.00 points to end at 2030.00 and DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) was up 2.74% or 9.80 points to 367.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB), which lost 4.43% or 217.00 points to trade at 4685.00 in late trade. ITV PLC (LON:ITV) declined 2.90% or 3.20 points to end at 107.00 and Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) shed 2.19% or 1.98 points to 88.28.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1087 to 1079 and 206 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.02% or 0.25 to $1426.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.15% or 0.64 to hit $56.27 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.38% or 0.86 to trade at $63.33 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.12% to 1.2485, while EUR/GBP rose 0.19% to 0.8985.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 96.900.
