Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Aerospace & Defense, Media and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES), which rose 3.12% or 36.00 points to trade at 1,190.00 at the close. Pershing Square Holdings Ltd (LON:PSHP) added 2.44% or 98.00 points to end at 4,116.00 and Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) was up 2.08% or 20.50 points to 1,007.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Barratt Redrow PLC (LON:BTRW), which lost 5.07% or 21.30 points to trade at 398.70 in late trade. United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) declined 4.91% or 50.30 points to end at 974.20 and JD Sports Fashion PLC (LON:JD) shed 3.90% or 3.96 points to 97.54.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1209 to 604 and 593 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.76% or 20.31 to $2,685.71 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.24% or 0.92 to hit $73.33 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.21% or 0.93 to trade at $76.12 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.98% to 1.24, while EUR/GBP rose 0.64% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.51% at 108.93.
