Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were WPP PLC (LON:WPP), which rose 2.61% or 35.00 points to trade at 1376.00 at the close. HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) added 2.52% or 18.50 points to end at 751.70 and BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) was up 2.27% or 30.50 points to 1372.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which lost 2.88% or 14.00 points to trade at 472.10 in late trade. Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) declined 2.65% or 106.00 points to end at 3888.00 and Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) shed 1.80% or 2.60 points to 141.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1178 to 998 and 126 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.06% or 0.70 to $1247.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.03% or 0.59 to hit $57.95 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.08% or 1.32 to trade at $64.72 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.29% to 1.3354, while EUR/GBP rose 0.50% to 0.8836.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 93.77.
