Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Construction & Materials and Industrial Transportation sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.06% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 6.78% or 36.60 points to trade at 576.20 at the close. Hiscox Ltd (LON:HSX) added 4.02% or 51.00 points to end at 1320.00 and Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT) was up 3.04% or 89.00 points to 3015.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG), which lost 7.51% or 155.50 points to trade at 1915.50 in late trade. Rightmove PLC (LON:RMV) declined 1.56% or 9.80 points to end at 619.20 and BP PLC (LON:BP) shed 1.44% or 7.20 points to 493.10.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1235 to 934 and 187 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.19% or 2.85 to $1466.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.24% or 0.14 to hit $58.15 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.35% or 0.22 to trade at $62.84 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.30% to 1.2859, while EUR/GBP rose 0.38% to 0.8569.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 98.215.
