Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Tobacco, Industrial Metals & Mining and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS), which rose 3.27% or 92.50 points to trade at 2924.50 at the close. Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) added 2.25% or 45.50 points to end at 2065.50 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was up 1.83% or 15.80 points to 881.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 3.40% or 32.60 points to trade at 927.00 in late trade. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) declined 3.06% or 41.00 points to end at 1299.00 and Halma PLC (LON:HLMA) shed 2.97% or 58.50 points to 1914.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1493 to 642 and 199 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.82% or 28.05 to $1512.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 2.39% or 1.37 to hit $55.92 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 2.20% or 1.39 to trade at $61.71 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.02% to 1.2360, while EUR/GBP rose 0.39% to 0.8854.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.73% at 98.637.
