Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare Equipment & Services, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Software & Computer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 10.94% or 236.00 points to trade at 2393.00 at the close. Rightmove PLC (LON:RMV) added 9.14% or 52.80 points to end at 630.60 and Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) was up 3.62% or 3.54 points to 101.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which lost 3.21% or 5.78 points to trade at 174.56 in late trade. JSC VTB Bank DRC (LON:VTBRq) declined 3.13% or 0.030 points to end at 0.944 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 2.74% or 36.50 points to 1294.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1188 to 945 and 167 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for October delivery was down 1.80% or 37.00 to $2021.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.98% or 0.83 to hit $41.12 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.69% or 0.76 to trade at $44.33 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.82% to 1.3038, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.00% to 0.9029.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.79% at 93.498.
