Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Insurance and Media sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 lost 1.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Bunzl PLC (LONDON:BNZL), which rose 1.70% or 30.00 points to trade at 1791.00 at the close. Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LONDON:RB) added 1.44% or 85.00 points to end at 5993.00 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LONDON:RRS) was up 1.33% or 50.00 points to 3794.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Pearson PLC (LONDON:PSON), which lost 4.76% or 58.00 points to trade at 1161.00 in late trade. Merlin Entertainments PLC (LONDON:MERL) declined 4.32% or 18.30 points to end at 405.55 and Sage Group PLC (LONDON:SGE) shed 3.79% or 20.50 points to 520.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2073 to 497 and 470 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.93% or 10.10 to $1096.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.16% or 0.56 to hit $47.58 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.58% or 0.86 to trade at $53.76 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.39% to 1.5580, while EUR/GBP rose 0.77% to 0.7131.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.87% at 96.50.
