Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Technology Hardware & Equipment, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 lost 0.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Meggitt PLC (LONDON:MGGT), which rose 7.93% or 36.80 points to trade at 501.00 at the close. Smiths Group PLC (LONDON:SMIN) added 4.44% or 51.00 points to end at 1200.00 and Old Mutual PLC (LONDON:OML) was up 2.81% or 6.00 points to 219.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shire PLC (LONDON:SHP), which lost 5.85% or 335.00 points to trade at 5395.00 in late trade. Coca Cola HBC AG (LONDON:CCH) declined 5.66% or 76.0 points to end at 1268.0 and ARM Holdings PLC (LONDON:ARM) shed 4.53% or 45.00 points to 948.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1358 to 1175 and 479 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.24% or 2.60 to $1092.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.90% or 0.86 to hit $46.03 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.06% or 0.53 to trade at $50.05 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.14% to 1.5609, while EUR/GBP fell 0.10% to 0.7019.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.08% at 97.52.
