Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Electronic & Electrical Equipment and Gas Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 fell 0.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Fresnillo Plc (LONDON:FRES), which rose 4.19% or 36.00 points to trade at 896.00 at the close. Glencore Xstrata Plc (LONDON:GLEN) added 3.84% or 10.20 points to end at 275.60 and Anglo American (LONDON:AAL) was up 3.36% or 38.50 points to 1184.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shire Plc (LONDON:SHP), which lost 3.48% or 171.00 points to trade at 4741.00 in late trade. RSA Insurance Group Plc (LONDON:RSA) declined 3.37% or 15.300 points to end at 439.000 and United Utilities Group Plc (LONDON:UU) shed 3.12% or 31.00 points to 962.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1344 to 712 and 370 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 0.32% or 4.00 to $1238.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for delivery in March rose 2.92% or 1.51 to hit $53.20 a barrel, while the April Brent Oil contract rose 1.23% or 0.72 to trade at $59.40 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.18% to 1.5216, while EUR/GBP rose 0.24% to 0.7440.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.14% at 94.70.
