Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 2.00% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 11.05% or 70.60 points to trade at 709.30 at the close. Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) added 10.64% or 50.100 points to end at 520.800 and BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) was up 9.18% or 74.20 points to 882.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO), which lost 7.79% or 15.3000 points to trade at 181.0000 in late trade. WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (LON:MRW) declined 1.99% or 4.00 points to end at 197.20 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) shed 1.24% or 85.00 points to 6775.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1664 to 499 and 407 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 1.05% or 13.30 to $1247.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.07% or 0.03 to hit $42.14 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.31% or 0.14 to trade at $44.55 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.29% to 1.4219, while EUR/GBP fell 0.59% to 0.7935.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.77% at 94.74.
