Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Mining, Oil & Gas Producers and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.03% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 8.12% or 41.10 points to trade at 547.20 at the close. Weir Group PLC (LON:WEIR) added 6.25% or 62.00 points to end at 1054.00 and BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) was up 4.54% or 33.00 points to 760.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Experian PLC (LON:EXPN), which lost 1.27% or 16.00 points to trade at 1239.00 in late trade. Shire PLC (LON:SHP) declined 1.00% or 43.00 points to end at 4250.00 and Schroders PLC (LON:SDR) shed 0.95% or 24.00 points to 2500.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1516 to 597 and 465 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.32% or 4.00 to $1241.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 6.20% or 2.31 to hit $39.57 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 5.96% or 2.35 to trade at $41.78 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.35% to 1.4106, while EUR/GBP fell 0.12% to 0.8085.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.28% at 94.24.
