Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Healthcare Equipment & Services, Industrial Metals & Mining and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.35% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 2.15% or 49.00 points to trade at 2324.00 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 1.84% or 15.80 points to end at 872.70 and Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) was up 1.55% or 19.00 points to 1245.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sports Direct International PLC (LON:SPD), which lost 3.72% or 11.500 points to trade at 297.300 in late trade. Inmarsat PLC (LON:ISA) declined 1.84% or 16.00 points to end at 854.00 and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) shed 1.68% or 2.7000 points to 157.8000.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1213 to 847 and 473 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.38% or 5.05 to $1348.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 2.65% or 1.18 to hit $45.67 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 2.62% or 1.23 to trade at $48.20 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.32% to 1.2873, while EUR/GBP rose 0.59% to 0.8695.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.18% at 95.51.
