Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas Producers, Tobacco and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Royal Dutch Shell PLC (LON:RDSb), which rose 2.95% or 61.0 points to trade at 2126.5 at the close. GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LON:GSK) added 2.75% or 44.000 points to end at 1645.000 and British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) was up 2.66% or 130.50 points to 5035.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV), which lost 9.79% or 38.000 points to trade at 350.300 in late trade. Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) declined 7.52% or 23.30 points to end at 286.70 and Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) shed 7.18% or 103.00 points to 1332.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1648 to 534 and 356 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 1.21% or 16.15 to $1355.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 4.41% or 2.16 to hit $46.83 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 4.13% or 2.07 to trade at $48.03 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.94% to 1.3029, while EUR/GBP rose 1.32% to 0.8502.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.60% at 96.18.
