Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Forestry & Paper, Electronic & Electrical Equipment and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were ITV PLC (LON:ITV), which rose 2.44% or 4.30 points to trade at 180.20 at the close. Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK) added 2.13% or 31.00 points to end at 1488.00 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was up 2.01% or 23.50 points to 1195.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB), which lost 2.95% or 225.00 points to trade at 7410.00 in late trade. GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LON:GSK) declined 2.55% or 40.5 points to end at 1545.5 and Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE) shed 1.21% or 8.50 points to 692.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1120 to 824 and 454 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.28% or 3.53 to $1248.57 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.55% or 0.74 to hit $48.63 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.27% or 0.64 to trade at $50.84 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.17% to 1.3049, while EUR/GBP fell 0.29% to 0.8915.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 94.01.
