Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mobile Telecommunications, General Industrial and Food Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.09% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which rose 7.18% or 130.00 points to trade at 1940.00 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 6.39% or 84.00 points to end at 1398.00 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) was up 4.96% or 8.00 points to 169.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Standard Life PLC (LON:SL), which lost 3.94% or 14.900 points to trade at 363.400 in late trade. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) declined 3.90% or 26.00 points to end at 641.50 and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) shed 3.11% or 6.40 points to 199.15.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1087 to 802 and 445 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 1.57% or 18.25 to $1183.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.34% or 0.18 to hit $53.08 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.28% or 0.16 to trade at $56.30 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.79% to 1.2418, while EUR/GBP rose 0.28% to 0.8535.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.02% at 101.44.
