Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Tobacco, General Retailers and Travel & Leisure sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which rose 5.92% or 24.50 points to trade at 438.00 at the close. J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) added 4.10% or 10.000 points to end at 254.000 and Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) was up 4.06% or 17.800 points to 456.700 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shire PLC (LON:SHP), which lost 3.40% or 168.50 points to trade at 4781.50 in late trade. Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP) declined 1.92% or 5.40 points to end at 276.00 and Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) shed 1.90% or 26.50 points to 1369.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1198 to 1040 and 463 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.15% or 1.95 to $1271.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.97% or 0.48 to hit $49.24 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.89% or 0.45 to trade at $50.02 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.05% to 1.2157, while EUR/GBP rose 0.48% to 0.9002.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.27% at 98.65.
