Investing.com – Taiwan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil, Gas & Electricity, Hotels and Trading & Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted rose 0.50% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Nishoku (TW:3679), which rose 10.00% or 6.30 points to trade at 69.30 at the close. Chung Hung Ste (TW:2014) added 9.98% or 0.60 points to end at 6.61 and Jui Li (TW:1512) was up 9.98% or 0.48 points to 5.29 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Pec (TW:4916), which lost 9.94% or 4.80 points to trade at 43.50 in late trade. Tri Ocean Text (TW:1472) declined 9.87% or 1.85 points to end at 16.90 and Epistar (TW:2448) shed 6.73% or 1.65 points to 22.85.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 398 to 360 and 94 ended unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.42% or 0.18 to $42.59 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.38% or 0.17 to hit $44.81 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 1.02% or 13.75 to trade at $1360.45 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 1.07% to 31.108, while TWD/CNY rose 0.09% to 0.2128.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.30% at 95.77.
