Investing.com – Sri Lanka equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Plantations, Power & Energy and Banking, Financials & Insurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Colombo, the CSE All-Share declined 0.76% to hit a new 52-week low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the CSE All-Share were Mercantile Shipping Company PLC (CM:MSL), which rose 20.00% or 15.00 points to trade at 90.00 at the close. Blue Diamonds Jewellery Worldwide PLC (CM:BLUE) added 16.67% or 0.100 points to end at 0.700 and Lanka Cement PLC (CM:LCEM) was up 10.00% or 0.30 points to 3.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included EB Creasy and Company PLC (CM:EBCR), which lost 20.03% or 275.50 points to trade at 1100.00 in late trade. Abans Electricals PLC (CM:ABAN) declined 12.26% or 10.90 points to end at 78.00 and Office Equipment PLC (CM:OFEQ) shed 11.73% or 8.20 points to 61.70.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 111 to 54 and 64 ended unchanged on the Colombo Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was down 0.03% or 0.02 to $64.88 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August rose 0.08% or 0.06 to hit $75.14 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.33% or 4.20 to trade at $1274.40 a troy ounce.
GBP/LKR was down 0.08% to 210.560, while USD/LKR rose 0.03% to 160.040.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 94.85.
