Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Energy, Telecoms and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Kelt Exploration Ltd. (TO:KEL), which rose 5.34% or 0.320 points to trade at 6.310 at the close. Northland Power Inc . (TO:NPI) added 4.60% or 1.09 points to end at 24.79 and Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE) was up 4.57% or 0.22 points to 5.03 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Pretium Resources Inc. (TO:PVG), which lost 6.91% or 0.91 points to trade at 12.25 in late trade. B2Gold Corp (TO:BTO) declined 6.47% or 0.260 points to end at 3.760 and Torex Gold Resources Inc (TO:TXG) shed 6.13% or 1.550 points to 23.720.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 607 to 565 and 132 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.28% to 11.96.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.04% or 0.45 to $1226.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.26% or 0.14 to hit $53.19 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.14% or 0.08 to trade at $55.98 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.24% to 0.7458, while CAD/EUR rose 0.16% to 0.7048.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.32% at 101.67.
