Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Transport, Gas & Water and Banking sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 1.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (T:6770), which rose 10.72% or 219.0 points to trade at 2262.0 at the close. Advantest Corp. (T:6857) added 9.44% or 115.0 points to end at 1333.0 and NTN Corp. (T:6472) was up 8.74% or 27.0 points to 336.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fujifilm Holdings Corp. (T:4901), which lost 9.90% or 401.0 points to trade at 3650.0 in late trade. Mitsumi Electric Co., Ltd. (T:6767) declined 9.36% or 53.0 points to end at 513.0 and Mitsubishi Electric Corp. (T:6503) shed 8.27% or 106.5 points to 1182.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1311 to 634 and 111 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.82% to 30.26.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.02% or 0.01 to $41.91 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.07% or 0.03 to hit $43.88 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.95% or 12.65 to trade at $1347.15 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.67% to 104.68, while EUR/JPY fell 0.45% to 116.05.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.24% at 96.52.
