Investing.com – Russia equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Mining, Telecoms and Manufacturing sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Moscow, the MICEX fell 0.71%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the MICEX were Verhnesald MPO (MCX:VSMO), which rose 3.93% or 350.0 points to trade at 9250.0 at the close. RDR United Company RUSAL PLC (MCX:RUALR) added 2.64% or 9.50 points to end at 369.40 and SG mechel (MCX:MTLR) was up 2.38% or 1.66 points to 71.53 in late trade.
Biggest losers included AFK Sistema (MCX:AFKS), which lost 3.60% or 0.620 points to trade at 16.610 in late trade. MegaFon OAO (MCX:MFON) declined 3.13% or 31.00 points to end at 960.00 and NLMK ao (MCX:NLMK) shed 3.08% or 2.30 points to 72.39.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 137 to 61 and 6 ended unchanged on the Moscow Stock Exchange.
The Russian VIX, which measures the implied volatility of MICEX options, was down 10.59% to 36.040 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.71% or 8.60 to $1202.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 5.63% or 3.04 to hit $50.94 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 4.56% or 2.69 to trade at $56.41 a barrel.
USD/RUB was down 2.31% to 53.664, while EUR/RUB fell 2.47% to 58.051.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.24% at 98.00.
