Baidu (NASDAQ:BIDU), one of China's leading AI companies, ordered 1,600 of Huawei Technologies' 910B Ascend AI chips in August, according to Reuters.

These chips, developed by Huawei as an alternative to Nvidia's (NASDAQ:NVDA) A100 chip, were ordered for 200 servers.

By October, Huawei had delivered over 60% of the order, which equates to about 1,000 chips. The total value of the order is approximately 450 million yuan ($61.83 million), and Huawei is expected to deliver all the chips by the end of the year.

This order is seen as significant, as it demonstrates how some Chinese firms are exploring alternatives to Nvidia's products due to U.S. government restrictions on chip exports to China.

Baidu had been a long-time client of Nvidia.
