Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Construction, Textile and Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.82%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707), which rose 7.90% or 35.0 points to trade at 478.0 at the close. SUMCO Corp. (T:3436) added 3.81% or 49.0 points to end at 1336.0 and Tosoh Corp. (T:4042) was up 2.54% or 20.0 points to 808.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included DeNA Co Ltd (T:2432), which lost 5.63% or 185.0 points to trade at 3100.0 in late trade. Tokuyama Corp. (T:4043) declined 3.20% or 14.0 points to end at 423.0 and Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Holdings (T:8309) shed 3.06% or 133.5 points to 4227.5.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1896 to 1106 and 332 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 7.57% to 19.28 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for January delivery was down 1.06% or 0.55 to $51.13 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February fell 0.97% or 0.53 to hit $53.93 a barrel, while the February Gold contract fell 0.11% or 1.25 to trade at $1176.55 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.04% to 113.47, while EUR/JPY fell 0.98% to 119.90.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.64% at 101.39.
