Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Paper & Pulp, Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 2.84%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (T:9531), which rose 3.77% or 89.0 points to trade at 2447.0 at the close. Nichirei Corp. (T:2871) added 1.82% or 49.0 points to end at 2735.0 and Yahoo Japan Corp. (T:4689) was up 1.67% or 7.0 points to 426.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (T:9104), which lost 9.09% or 172.0 points to trade at 1721.0 in late trade. Keisei Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (T:9009) declined 9.05% or 295.0 points to end at 2965.0 and Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (T:6770) shed 8.01% or 90.0 points to 1033.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2921 to 713 and 134 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 31.39 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was up 1.43% or 0.27 to $19.11 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July fell 0.26% or 0.07 to hit $26.41 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.91% or 15.40 to trade at $1678.80 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.13% to 107.03, while EUR/JPY fell 0.18% to 117.19.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 99.155.
