Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Transportation Equipment, Steel and Banking sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 2.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (TYO:6976), which rose 2.97% or 117.00 points to trade at 4,057.00 at the close. Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (TYO:4506) added 2.05% or 7.00 points to end at 349.00 and CyberAgent Inc (TYO:4751) was up 2.03% or 19.40 points to 974.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Trend Micro Inc. (TYO:4704), which lost 6.08% or 425.00 points to trade at 6,567.00 in late trade. Ricoh Co., Ltd. (TYO:7752) declined 5.96% or 86.00 points to end at 1,358.00 and Tokyo Tatemono Co., Ltd. (TYO:8804) shed 5.49% or 139.50 points to 2,401.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2579 to 1054 and 240 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 5.01% to 16.29.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was down 0.47% or 0.37 to $77.68 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 0.51% or 0.42 to hit $82.20 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.77% or 18.20 to trade at $2,330.90 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.02% to 157.40, while EUR/JPY fell 0.03% to 168.40.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 105.22.
