Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Steel, Power and Marine Transport sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 1.49%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Taiheiyo Cement Corp. (TYO:5233), which rose 6.77% or 132.00 points to trade at 2,082.00 at the close. Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co., Ltd. (TYO:5232) added 5.98% or 195.00 points to end at 3,455.00 and SKY Perfect JSAT Holdings Inc. (TYO:9412) was up 3.51% or 17.00 points to 502.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TYO:7735), which lost 4.76% or 560.00 points to trade at 11,200.00 in late trade. Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857) declined 4.20% or 360.00 points to end at 8,210.00 and Kubota Corp. (TYO:6326) shed 4.16% or 106.50 points to 2,452.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2858 to 707 and 198 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 4.01% to 20.22.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was down 0.67% or 0.81 to $120.70 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 0.67% or 0.83 to hit $122.24 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.19% or 3.45 to trade at $1,849.35 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.68% to 133.41, while EUR/JPY fell 0.45% to 141.93.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 103.09.
