Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Glass, Electrical/Machinery and Machinery sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 1.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Dentsu Inc. (T:4324), which rose 4.04% or 200.0 points to trade at 5150.0 at the close. Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (T:5713) added 2.25% or 116.0 points to end at 5270.0 and Tokyu Corp. (T:9005) was up 1.71% or 32.0 points to 1904.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sony Corp (T:6758), which lost 3.55% or 193.0 points to trade at 5249.0 in late trade. Kikkoman Corp. (T:2801) declined 3.44% or 160.0 points to end at 4485.0 and J.Front Retailing Co., Ltd. (T:3086) shed 3.20% or 67.0 points to 2025.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2291 to 1096 and 190 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.05% to 16.33.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.88% or 0.58 to $66.19 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.51% or 0.36 to hit $70.89 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.29% or 4.00 to trade at $1360.30 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.12% to 109.09, while EUR/JPY fell 0.03% to 135.50.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 88.92.
