Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Power, Shipbuilding and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 1.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Astellas Pharma Inc. (T:4503), which rose 3.60% or 55.8 points to trade at 1604.3 at the close. JGC Corp. (T:1963) added 1.54% or 35.0 points to end at 2312.0 and The Kansai Electric Power Co. (T:9503) was up 1.07% or 13.5 points to 1280.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sony Corp (T:6758), which lost 4.23% or 227.0 points to trade at 5144.0 in late trade. Yaskawa Electric Corp. (T:6506) declined 3.78% or 195.0 points to end at 4965.0 and Nissan Chemical Industries, Ltd. (T:4021) shed 2.87% or 125.0 points to 4235.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2841 to 616 and 125 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 3.37% to 21.79.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for May delivery was down 0.30% or 0.19 to $62.22 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in May fell 0.32% or 0.21 to hit $66.00 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.19% or 2.50 to trade at $1309.80 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.22% to 105.78, while EUR/JPY fell 0.35% to 129.82.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 89.85.
