Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Chemical, Communication and Trading sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.51%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Takara Holdings Inc. (T:2531), which rose 16.14% or 180.0 points to trade at 1295.0 at the close. Tokyo Dome Corp. (T:9681) added 3.93% or 37.0 points to end at 978.0 and Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) was up 3.03% or 110.0 points to 3740.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Furukawa Co., Ltd. (T:5715), which lost 9.48% or 161.0 points to trade at 1538.0 in late trade. SUMCO Corp. (T:3436) declined 5.20% or 99.0 points to end at 1806.0 and Konami Corp. (T:9766) shed 4.22% or 195.0 points to 4425.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2535 to 860 and 193 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 7.79% to 16.47.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for October delivery was down 0.16% or 0.11 to $68.61 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in November unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to hit $77.27 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.52% or 6.20 to trade at $1207.50 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.18% to 111.33, while EUR/JPY fell 0.17% to 129.50.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 95.06.
