Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic and Steel sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (TYO:6976), which rose 2.94% or 133.00 points to trade at 4,656.00 at the close. SMC Corp (TYO:6273) added 2.14% or 1,720.00 points to end at 82,030.00 and Nexon Co Ltd (TYO:3659) was up 2.02% or 62.00 points to 3,127.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107), which lost 4.46% or 120.50 points to trade at 2,580.00 in late trade. Yaskawa Electric Corp. (TYO:6506) declined 4.39% or 262.00 points to end at 5,710.00 and Hitachi Zosen Corp. (TYO:7004) shed 3.66% or 40.00 points to 1,054.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2198 to 1417 and 270 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.48% to 16.76.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was down 0.55% or 0.46 to $82.70 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.40% or 0.35 to hit $86.19 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.32% or 7.70 to trade at $2,390.00 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.01% to 160.74, while EUR/JPY rose 0.12% to 173.89.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 104.69.
