Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Rubber, Financial Services and Insurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 2.51%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Japan Steel Works Ltd (TYO:5631), which rose 11.63% or 433.00 points to trade at 4,155.00 at the close. Sumitomo Mitsui Financial (TYO:8316) added 10.24% or 819.00 points to end at 8,819.00 and Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. (TYO:4005) was up 9.96% or 38.10 points to 420.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NTT Data Corp. (TYO:9613), which lost 10.81% or 237.50 points to trade at 1,960.00 in late trade. Daikin Industries, Ltd. (TYO:6367) declined 9.95% or 1,900.00 points to end at 17,200.00 and Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co., Ltd. (TYO:5232) shed 8.88% or 341.00 points to 3,500.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2881 to 920 and 90 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 27.59% to 51.19.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.07% or 0.05 to $73.25 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.03% or 0.02 to hit $76.50 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.19% or 4.55 to trade at $2,436.15 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 1.78% to 146.87, while EUR/JPY rose 1.58% to 160.28.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.27% at 103.04.
