Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Shipbuilding, Automobiles & Parts and Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.77% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were DeNA Co Ltd (TYO:2432), which rose 15.58% or 420.00 points to trade at 3,115.00 at the close. Nidec Corp (TYO:6594) added 4.14% or 113.00 points to end at 2,843.00 and Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857) was up 3.87% or 352.00 points to 9,447.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (TYO:7201), which lost 7.82% or 43.20 points to trade at 509.20 in late trade. DIC Corp (TYO:4631) declined 4.60% or 163.00 points to end at 3,378.00 and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (TYO:7211) shed 2.27% or 12.80 points to 550.10.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2976 to 755 and 159 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 14.91% to 21.04.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was down 0.03% or 0.02 to $69.60 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in March fell 0.07% or 0.05 to hit $72.80 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.19% or 4.91 to trade at $2,648.99 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.15% to 157.76, while EUR/JPY fell 0.22% to 164.31.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 107.96.
