Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Shipbuilding, Insurance and Finance & Investment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 1.26% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857), which rose 7.02% or 408.00 points to trade at 6,222.00 at the close. Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (TYO:4506) added 7.00% or 25.00 points to end at 382.00 and Tokyo Electron Ltd. (TYO:8035) was up 3.63% or 1,250.00 points to 35,650.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included JTEKT Corp. (TYO:6473), which lost 2.21% or 25.00 points to trade at 1,105.50 in late trade. SoftBank Corp (TYO:9434) declined 2.12% or 42.00 points to end at 1,938.00 and IHI Corp. (TYO:7013) shed 1.99% or 89.00 points to 4,388.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2154 to 1444 and 277 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.53% to 16.74.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was up 0.69% or 0.56 to $81.39 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.63% or 0.53 to hit $84.75 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.14% or 3.15 to trade at $2,327.65 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.09% to 159.84, while EUR/JPY fell 0.05% to 171.00.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 105.40.
