Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, Communication and Transportation Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.97%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Softbank Corp. (T:9984), which rose 4.52% or 475.0 points to trade at 10987.5 at the close. Chiyoda Corp. (T:6366) added 4.50% or 36.0 points to end at 836.0 and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (T:9104) was up 4.15% or 119.0 points to 2989.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Pioneer Corp. (T:6773), which lost 11.11% or 13.0 points to trade at 104.0 in late trade. Advantest Corp. (T:6857) declined 5.39% or 127.0 points to end at 2230.0 and Trend Micro Inc. (T:4704) shed 4.82% or 340.0 points to 6710.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2218 to 1138 and 241 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.12% to 16.31.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for October delivery was down 1.41% or 0.99 to $69.38 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in November fell 0.88% or 0.70 to hit $79.04 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.07% or 0.80 to trade at $1211.70 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.18% to 111.47, while EUR/JPY rose 0.13% to 129.56.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 94.89.
