Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Glass, Insurance and Warehousing sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.69%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (TYO:9501), which rose 16.23% or 74.00 points to trade at 530.00 at the close. Komatsu Ltd. (TYO:6301) added 8.52% or 253.50 points to end at 3,230.00 and Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (TYO:8031) was up 6.08% or 194.00 points to 3,386.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shiseido Co., Ltd. (TYO:4911), which lost 9.29% or 563.00 points to trade at 5,500.00 in late trade. Rakuten Inc (TYO:4755) declined 5.01% or 46.00 points to end at 872.00 and Softbank Group Corp. (TYO:9984) shed 2.27% or 120.00 points to 5,170.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2228 to 1337 and 215 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 11.01% to 27.83 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was up 0.27% or 0.29 to $108.55 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 0.33% or 0.37 to hit $111.27 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.10% or 1.89 to trade at $1,873.81 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.20% to 130.40, while EUR/JPY fell 0.19% to 136.90.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 103.96.
