Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Mining, Shipbuilding and Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.58%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were JGC Corp. (T:1963), which rose 14.93% or 205.00 points to trade at 1,578.00 at the close. Yokogawa Electric Corp. (T:6841) added 9.69% or 182.00 points to end at 2,060.00 and Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) was up 6.70% or 179.00 points to 2,851.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. (T:9532), which lost 5.44% or 121.00 points to trade at 2,105.00 in late trade. Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (T:9531) declined 3.11% or 73.00 points to end at 2,276.00 and Obayashi Corp. (T:1802) shed 2.95% or 27.00 points to 887.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2338 to 1232 and 209 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.24% to 28.60.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for April delivery was down 3.36% or 3.67 to $105.66 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in May fell 3.15% or 3.55 to hit $109.12 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.37% or 7.35 to trade at $1,977.65 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.42% to 117.78, while EUR/JPY rose 0.58% to 128.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 99.11.
