Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Transportation Equipment, Manufacturing and Paper & Pulp sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.50% to hit a new 5-year high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were DeNA Co Ltd (T:2432), which rose 7.78% or 191.0 points to trade at 2646.0 at the close. SUMCO Corp. (T:3436) added 3.47% or 75.0 points to end at 2239.0 and Sojitz Corp. (T:2768) was up 2.76% or 9.0 points to 334.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Yaskawa Electric Corp. (T:6506), which lost 3.61% or 150.0 points to trade at 4000.0 in late trade. Rakuten Inc (T:4755) declined 2.02% or 25.0 points to end at 1214.5 and Yamaha Corp. (T:7951) shed 1.92% or 85.0 points to 4350.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2292 to 978 and 227 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 8.60% to 14.67.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for December delivery was down 0.19% or 0.10 to $51.80 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in December fell 0.30% or 0.17 to hit $57.20 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.08% or 1.01 to trade at $1279.89 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.16% to 113.62, while EUR/JPY rose 0.26% to 133.62.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 93.70.
