Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Shipbuilding, Paper & Pulp and Transportation Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.37%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were M3 Inc (TYO:2413), which rose 5.30% or 71.50 points to trade at 1,420.00 at the close. Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (TYO:5801) added 4.77% or 150.00 points to end at 3,294.00 and SUMCO Corp. (TYO:3436) was up 4.44% or 62.00 points to 1,459.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Keio Corp. (TYO:9008), which lost 3.59% or 129.00 points to trade at 3,465.00 in late trade. Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (TYO:3099) declined 3.26% or 71.50 points to end at 2,125.00 and Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (TYO:4506) shed 2.86% or 17.00 points to 577.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2351 to 1220 and 268 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 7.82% to 28.82.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for November delivery was down 0.69% or 0.48 to $69.48 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in November fell 0.69% or 0.51 to hit $73.19 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.14% or 3.65 to trade at $2,596.05 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.59% to 141.55, while EUR/JPY fell 0.54% to 157.41.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 100.54.
