Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Power, Gas & Water and Railway & Bus sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.31%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Chiyoda Corp. (T:6366), which rose 3.49% or 27.0 points to trade at 800.0 at the close. Terumo Corp. (T:4543) added 3.39% or 210.0 points to end at 6410.0 and Pacific Metals Co., Ltd. (T:5541) was up 2.96% or 105.0 points to 3650.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T:6976), which lost 4.05% or 126.0 points to trade at 2984.0 in late trade. Nippon Meat Packers, Inc. (T:2282) declined 3.04% or 120.0 points to end at 3825.0 and Taiheiyo Cement Corp. (T:5233) shed 2.89% or 95.1 points to 3190.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1939 to 1442 and 243 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.60% to 17.17.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for October delivery was up 0.99% or 0.67 to $68.42 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in November rose 1.24% or 0.95 to hit $77.78 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.09% or 1.10 to trade at $1199.30 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.03% to 111.00, while EUR/JPY rose 0.08% to 128.38.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 95.31.
