Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Banking, IT and Green Energy sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.29%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Motors DV Ltd (NS:TAMdv), which rose 2.48% or 8.65 points to trade at 357.70 at the close. UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) added 1.96% or 77.30 points to end at 4030.50 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was up 1.83% or 11.65 points to 649.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which lost 2.38% or 6.50 points to trade at 267.05 in late trade. AXIS Bank Ltd. (NS:AXBK) declined 2.31% or 12.60 points to end at 534.00 and Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA) shed 1.60% or 1.30 points to 79.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which rose 2.32% to 191.50, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which was up 1.59% to settle at 157.00 and Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which gained 1.59% to close at 558.10.
The worst performers were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 2.56% to 266.75 in late trade, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which lost 2.03% to settle at 535.70 and Bajaj Auto Limited (BO:BAJA) which was down 1.28% to 2857.20 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 859 to 628 and 60 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1704 rose and 1109 declined, while 116 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.45% to 14.9250.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.45% or 5.75 to $1275.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.79% or 0.87 to hit $49.56 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.85% or 0.94 to trade at $51.81 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.11% to 66.537, while EUR/INR rose 0.07% to 74.6780.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.05% at 96.05.
