Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the IT, Technology and Metals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.97%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.94%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which rose 1.59% or 2.30 points to trade at 147.10 at the close. Shree Cements Ltd. (NS:SHCM) added 0.54% or 107.95 points to end at 19,962.10 and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) was up 0.37% or 2.70 points to 731.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which lost 3.05% or 92.80 points to trade at 2,954.05 in late trade. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) declined 2.61% or 9.30 points to end at 346.90 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) shed 2.35% or 34.55 points to 1,438.60.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 1.87% to 147.05, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 0.33% to settle at 662.45 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which gained 0.21% to close at 5,873.45.
The worst performers were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 2.33% to 1,438.50 in late trade, Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which lost 1.87% to settle at 18,132.60 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 1.66% to 213.40 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1049 to 757 and 72 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1738 fell and 1437 advanced, while 167 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.98% to 18.55.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.05% or 0.95 to $1,730.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 2.85% or 2.97 to hit $101.12 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 2.61% or 2.79 to trade at $104.31 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.10% to 79.57, while EUR/INR fell 0.03% to 79.70.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.38% at 108.24.
