Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Metals and Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.61% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.47%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM), which rose 3.71% or 60.40 points to trade at 1688.65 at the close. State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) added 2.38% or 7.40 points to end at 318.10 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) was up 1.91% or 23.50 points to 1255.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which lost 4.99% or 9.30 points to trade at 176.90 in late trade. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) declined 4.50% or 5.20 points to end at 110.40 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) shed 3.65% or 7.10 points to 187.30.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which rose 3.87% to 1691.05, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was up 2.53% to settle at 318.55 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which gained 2.23% to close at 1258.90.
The worst performers were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 5.80% to 108.90 in late trade, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which lost 3.86% to settle at 186.90 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 2.75% to 2079.30 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 938 to 585 and 87 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1363 fell and 934 advanced, while 147 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.39% to 17.3675 a new 3-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.22% or 3.50 to $1580.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.46% or 0.24 to hit $52.38 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.19% or 0.11 to trade at $57.44 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.20% to 71.394, while EUR/INR fell 0.12% to 78.8120.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 97.715.
